Updated Feb 9: Some students have pointed out an error in the hint for problem 2a. The corrected hint should state: ?To establish the implication ?convergence with respect to $d_m$ implies convergence with respect to $d$?, use that if a positive number $a$ satisfies $\frac{a}{1+a} < \frac{\eps}{1+\eps}$, then it follows that $a < \eps$?. The PDF file of the assignment has been updated to reflect this correction.
