New notes on splines and lecture cancelled

I've put a new version of the spline notes (Lecture 5) on the webpage, with a complete proof of smoothness. Please read it! The lecture on Tuesday 24 Sept. is cancelled. Instead we'll have a lecture on Tues 01 Oct and a tutorial on Fri 04 Oct.
