UNIK4510 – Satellite remote sensing using advanced radar instruments
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
Satellites used as platforms for radar. Satellite orbits, radar principles, altimeter, side-looking radar, synthetic aperture radar (SAR). Applications of SAR images over land and ocean. Monitoring terrain elevations and movements using interferometric SAR.
Learning outcome
The students will get an overall understanding of the physical and technological principles of using radar from satellites. They will learn to solve problems with respect to orbit parameters, resolution and attitude accuracies, estimating elevation heights and ground movements using SAR interferometry. There will be given a lot of examples on how radar can be used for sea and land surface monitoring
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.
If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
