Welcome to TEK4500 Introduction to Cryptography Fall 2022!

This is the main page for the course. Here you will find course information and any announcements I make for the course, as well as links to lecture slides, recordings, problem sets, and any other material. So please check it regularly. There is also a Canvas page for the course, but we will only use it to publish solutions to home work problems, as well as discussions for the course.

The solution for the exam is now available on Canvas. Please do not distribute it further.

This is just a reminder that there will be a recap lecture on Wednesday. If there is any topic in particular you want me to focus extra on, please let me know so I can prepare something in advance.

Also, if you intend to take the exam and still haven't submitted the sufficient number of problem sets/midterm, please let me know as soon as possible.

Regarding today's topic of PKI's and root certificate authorities, here's an interesting story about the root CA TrustCor in the Washington Post: https://www.washingtonpost.com/technology/2022/11/08/trustcor-internet-addresses-government-connections/

The story is still evolving. Recommended.

For balance: statements from the company itself: https://groups.google.com/a/mozilla.org/g/dev-security-policy/c/5dqLlvAXOgw and https://groups.google.com/a/mozilla.org/g/dev-security-policy/c/oxX69KFvsm4/m/X_6OFLGfBQAJ

This is a reminder that you have to submit two of the weekly problem sets and get them approved in order to eligible for the exam. If you haven't submitted any problem sets yet and you plan to take the exam: please submit answers to the remaining two problem sets (Problem set 9 and 10)!

If you plan to take the exam, but know that you will be unable to submit enough problem sets: send me an email as soon as possible, or come talk to me.

Note: if you've taken the course before and only plan to retake the exam, then the above does not apply to you.

The midterm is now graded. Well done. If you have any questions please feel free to ask me in the group recitation or send me an email.

In case you did not receive a passing mark, you will be required to submit (and pass) one additional homework set (thus 3 in total). Again, if you need more feedback or guidance, please drop me an email or come see me before and after the lectures.

Finally, I want to remind everyone that hasn't submitted (and passed) two homework sets, to please do so in due time.

Unfortunately, the battery of my microphone died during the first half of lecture 6, hence only 10 minutes of Lecture 6 (part 1) have sound. I'm sorry about this. The audio for part 2 of the lecture is still there.

The solutions for Problem Set 1 are available on Canvas. Please do not distribute them further. Many of you submitted solutions and generally all the submission were pretty good. Refer to the posted solution for an indication of how I might structure an answer. Keep up the good work!

Also, I noticed that many of you retyped the text of the problems themselves. You are not required to do this (unless you want to of course); I already know what the question is!
