Course content

This course aims to provide an overview of interpretive approaches to in-formation systems research. Content will include: introductory material on ‘what is interpretive research’; the role, generation and choice of theory; conducting empirical work; analysis and creating a contribution; and writ-ing –up interpretive research.

Learning outcome

The course aims to give students a solid introduction to interpretive re-search as a basis for carrying out their own dissertation work. The student will be made aware of the intellectual background of interpretive research approaches, and will learn about the conduct of research studies from col-lecting data through analysis to generating conclusions.

Prerequisites

Recommended previous knowledge

Bachelor in informatics, admitted to Masters and PhD in information systems.

One-week intensive course Lectures and discussions. Presentation of articles, individual essay

Examination

Assessment of presentation and individual essay. Presentation 30% Individual Essay 70%
