INF-MAT9340 – Spline methods
Course description
Course content
B-splines, knot insertion, knot removal, interpolation, approximation, tensor product surfaces, parametric curves and surfaces.
Learning outcome
The students will get a thorough introduction to spline methods for modelling curves and surfaces, with emphasis both on the mathematical theory and practical methods.
Admission
PhD candidates from the University of Oslo should apply for classes and register for examinations through Studentweb.
If a course has limited intake capacity, priority will be given to PhD candidates who follow an individual education plan where this particular course is included. Some national researchers’ schools may have specific rules for ranking applicants for courses with limited intake capacity.
PhD candidates who have been admitted to another higher education institution must apply for a position as a visiting student within a given deadline.

Teaching
3 hours of lectures each week. Several mandatory problems must be completed during the course; if these are not accepted, the student may not take the final exam.
Examination
A 3 hour oral or written exam. Graded marks (A-F).
Note that the exam in INF-MAT9340 will be more extensive than the one in INF-MAT5340.
Other
Note that the first lecture is compulsory.
The subject is regarded equal to IN329 when practicing exam regulations.
