INF4420 – Microelectronics Design Project

Course content

The course provides the know-how and skills needed to design analogue and mixed-signal integrated circuit modules using modern program tools. The main focus of the course is complex systems such as data converters (A/D, D/A) and phase-locked loops (PLL). An introduction is given to CMOS technology and methods in order to implement passive components such as transistors, condensers and coils. In addition, matching, optimisation and noise deflection are all key aspects. The execution of project tasks will be a central part of the teaching.

Learning outcome

Students will have the skills needed to design an integrated mixed-signal circuit in CMOS using modern design tools.

Admission to the course

Students at UiO register for courses and exams in Studentweb.

It's recommended that?you've taken?INF1400 – Digital technology (discontinued) /INF130.

The course builds on?INF3400 – Digital nanoelektronikk (discontinued) / INF4400 – Digital mikroelektronikk (discontinued) /IN 241 and INF3410 – Analog microelectronics (discontinued) /4410.

Overlapping courses

Teaching

3 hours of lectures and 2 hours of working in groups every week. Some of the teaching will be given as supervision in labs. Mandatory assignments must be completed during the course. Rules for mandatory assignments.

Examination

Individual grading of project assignment (40%) and final exam (ca 60%). Oral/written. The mandatory assignments must be approved prior to the exam.

It will also be counted as one of?your three?attempts to sit the exam for this course, if you sit the exam for one of the following courses: INF3420 - Prosjekter i analog/mixed-signal CMOS konstruksjon.

Examination support material

All printed and written exam resources are allowed.

Grading scale

Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F?is a fail. Read more about?the grading system.

Resit an examination

Students who can document a valid reason for absence from the regular examination are?offered a postponed examination at the beginning of the next semester. Re-scheduled examinations are not offered to students who withdraw during, or did not pass the original examination.
