Dear amazing students in IN5370,

Hope you are well! This has been another great week together, for which I thank you. It was great to explore digital ID systems, while a lot less great to explore the harm they participate in - I am grateful for the debate we had on biometric borders, and for the different insights that everyone brought to it. Thank you for being such a wonderful class!

Here is, as promised, a link to the Digital ID toolkit that informed our card game: https://www.accessnow.org/guide/digital-id-toolkit/

I look forward to seeing you on Tuesday, remember we have a very engaging role-play session on dropdown menus and gender identities, led by our guest star Katherine Wyers, so be there! Such a great occasion to continue our journey in ICT and global inequalities!

All the best,

Silvia

Dear amazing students in IN5370,

Hope you are well! Many thanks for a great first week together, and for being so active and thought-provocative in the class activities. I have had a splendid week with you and I look forward to three more!

Here is the ICT4D Agenda that we built together in yesterday's class. I am extremely happy to see the variety of topics and ideas that you consider important, and that will inform our engagement with global inequalities in the next three weeks. At the end of the course, we will refer again to this agenda to illuminate future priorities for our field.

For now, enjoy the weekend, and see you on Tuesday!

Silvia

Hello! :-)

A warm welcome to IN5370, "ICT and Global Inequalities". In this course we will explore the relationship between ICT and socio-economic inequalities on a global scale, guided by the question on how such inequalities are produced and what can be done to overcome them. In our journey we will explore the widespread diffusion of digitally-induced harm and injustice stemming from ICTs including digital ID, biometric border controls and tools of data violence, and explore different paths to overcoming such injustices....
