Note that the instructions for registering on Fox have been updated concerning the registration process for international students:

If you cannot register yourself via ID-Porten, we have to sign you up manually. In this case, please write an email to yves.scherrer@ifi.uio.no with the following information:

  • Full name
  • Birth date
  • Passport or ID number
  • Country issuing the passport/ID

If you already have a Fox/EduCloud user account, please also mention it in your email.

The third obligatory assignment will make use of Fox, a high-performance computing cluster. You need to register to gain access to the cluster, and this process can take a few days. See here for instructions on how to register and log in to Fox.

Dear IFI students,

This Fall, the Language Technology Group (LTG) is planning a project related to large language models (LLMs) for Norwegian, for which we need several native Norwegian speakers to conduct some paid creative work. You can be part of this team!

In short, the project is titled "NorGenEval". Generative language models have become critical in understanding and producing human language. However, the development of such models in Norwegian lags somewhat behind, mainly due to the lack of specialized datasets. Specifically, evaluating conversational language models (similar to ChatGPT) requires benchmarking datasets which test their language generation capabilities. Unfortunately, no (public) native Norwegian dataset of this type is available now.

There has been a technical glitch on our side for the train and test files for the last part of the obligatory assignment 1, which led to the train and test files containing many of the same input examples.

This is now corrected, and here are some new files in which the train and test files are fully separated: train file and test file.

If you have already submitted the assignment, no worries, this does not in any way affect the actual solution for the tasks, so you don't need to resubmit.

You will find all relevant information about this course on this page. We will update the schedule page as we plan the course in detail, but you can already check out last year's schedule to get an overall idea of the course contents.
