Invitation to Participate in Test Case Design Research Study
Dear bachelor students enrolled in Software Testing (IN4240),
We would like to invite you to participate in a research study exploring how students design test cases for Java methods. Your participation will help us better understand in which sequence the test cases are designed.
Who should participate?
We're looking for participants who:
1. Have basic Java programming skills and can read the provided code
2. Have fundamental knowledge of unit testing
3. Work experience is not required
What will you do?
- Think aloud (i.e., verbalize) as you come up with test cases for a Java method.
- No actual coding skills will be requested during the study - Instead, we're interested in your thought process and the test cases you would create
Session structure (35 minutes total):
1. Introduction and problem explanation (5 minutes)
2. Test case design activity (20 minutes)
· You'll read a Java method description
· Explain which test cases you would write and in what order
· Think aloud as you work through your reasoning
3. Follow-up discussion about your experience (10 min)
Benefits of participation:
- 200 NOK gift card as appreciation for your time
- Opportunity to practice test case design skills
- Contribute to research that may improve software testing education
??Important information:
- All data will be anonymized
- Participation is completely voluntary
- No preparation is needed - we're interested in your natural approach
If you are interested in participating or have any questions, please get in touch with us at jayeongs@ifi.uio.no.
