Course content
The course gives an introduction to human ecology in perspectives from our past. An exciting subject to anybody that are curious about our own species, and therefore useful background for many studies, such as biology, medicine, psychology, anthropology, sociology, philosophy, archaeology, and theology. The subject is also popular for teaching in school.
Learning outcome
When you have finished the course, you should have:
- improved interdisciplinary understanding of human ecology
- insights from human evolutionary past through comparative studies of fossil and recent primates
- knowledge about human behaviour in light of ecology and evolution
Admission

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway
Recommended previous knowledge
Some biological insight is recomended. The course is however of general interest

- 10 credits overlap with BIO4100 – Human Behavioural Ecology (discontinued)

Teaching
The course will consist of lectures (2 hours per week) and seminars (1 hour per week).
Access to teaching
A student who has completed compulsory instruction and coursework and has had these approved, is not entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework. A student who has been admitted to a course, but who has not completed compulsory instruction and coursework or had these approved, is entitled to repeat that instruction and coursework, depending on available capacity.
Examination
Written exam (3 hours)
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

The course is subject to continuous evaluation. At regular intervals we also ask students to participate in a more comprehensive evaluation.
