BIOS9980 – Proteomics Basic Course

Course content

The aim of this course is to provide an introduction to basic proteomics techniques.

Learning outcome

After successfully completing this course, you will have the following competences:

  • Practical and theoretical knowledge in proteomics.
  • Knowledge about common workflows for the large-scale analysis of proteins.
  • Fundamental knowledge about quantification of proteomes.
  • Understanding how to identify and quantify proteins from mass spectrometry data.
  • Able to evaluate MS/MS data including de novo sequencing.
  • Insight into the analysis of post-translational modifications and protein-protein interactions.
  • On-hands experience with in-gel digestions, LC-ESI and MALDI mass spectrometry,? protein identification and quantification, and functional data analysis.

Teaching

  • Lectures - 2 hours every day for 5 days
  • Laboratory - 3 hours every day for 5 days

The course is given as a one-week intensive course and consists of a series of lectures followed by 3 hours training in lab. each day.

Both the lectures and the practical training in the lab are mandatory. As?the?teaching involves laboratory and/or field work, you should consider taking out a separate travel and personal risk insurance.?Read about your insurance cover as a student.

Examination

  • Oral examination.

If more than 10 students attend the course it will be offered as a three hour written exam.
