NAM1000 – Environmental science: The Atmosphere, Climate, and Global Warming
Course content
The course will give a general introduction to environmental science; the geosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere and the biosphere. It will also be given an introduction to the biogeochemical cycle and the climate system and human influence on it.
Learning outcome
You will be given an introduction to processes in the atmosphere, ocean and on earth which are important for the environment, how human activity influence the environment and its consequences. An especial focus will be on how the climate system works and how human activity influences it through emissions.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
In addition to fulfilling the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway, you must either have 2MX/2MY/3MZ and 3MX/3FY/3KJ/3BI/(2KJ+3BT)/(2BI+3BT) from Norwegian upper secondary school, or have completed equivalent studies in mathematics as well as physics, or chemistry, or biology at upper secondary school or university level at another educational institution. Teaching
The course covers one semester with three hour lecture and three hour with colloquia groups per week. Students will interact both through colloquia groups and through the web-based Class Fronter. Teaching takes place throughout the semester.
Examination
The students have to deliver two obligatory written essays, one group essay followed by an oral presentation and one individual essay. The group essay and the individual essay count for 20% each of the final result of the final grade. A final written examination, which counts 60%, is given at the end of the course. Letter grade (A-F).
This course offers new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination.
