This is a four-week field course on geomorphic effects of Holocene and recent climate changes in high arctic Svalbard. Part of the course will take place near the settlement Longyearbyen in central Spitsbergen, while another part of the course will take place at Kapp Linné at the west coast of Spitsbergen. The first course week will be used for scientific and practical preparations of the field campaign, based at UNIS in Longyearbyen. Two weeks will be used for field work. The final week will be used at UNIS, preparing written reports and oral presentation.

Learning outcome

You will obtain good field knowledge on various cold-climate geomorphic processes and –landforms.

Teaching

Lectures, seminars, excursions and field work. Obligatory written report which must be approved before you can take the final exam.

Examination

An oral presentation, which includes the field report, at the end of the course, counts 100%. Letter grades (A-F).

This course does not offer new examination in the beginning of the subsequent term for candidates who withdraw during an ordinary examination or fail an ordinary examination.
