GEO4510 – Digital terrain analysis (geomorphometry)
Course description
Course content
This course focuses on the generation, analysis, classification and application of digital elevation models (DEMs) in combination with remotely sensed data on environmental topics like landform distribution, slope hazards and other processes, both terrestrial and sub-marine. The course gives specialised lectures and training in
- Geomorphometrical description of the earth surface
- Generation of DEMs and interpolation procedures
- Terrain parameterisation
- Topographic based models (snow distribution, energy balance)
- Topographic classification
- Applications of topographic analysis on geomorphological processes and slope hazard
- Sub-marine topography
- Inclusion of remotely sensed data
- Environmental and cartographic modelling
Learning outcome
The course aims to give the students an overview of DEM applications and analysis in geo-scientific research and investigation. You will gain experience in working with different digital tools for geographical information handling.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
At least two years of study of natural science (geoscience) or informatics. The first lessons will provide a repetition of basic themes within GIS.
Recommended previous knowledge
Basic knowledge about geographical information handling and geo-science.

10 ECTS credits overlap with GG372.
Teaching
Traditional lectures and tutorial groups, 4 hours per week.
Examination
Ca 4 written exercises must be handed inn and will be grades. You are required to pass. Together, these counts ca 50%. Final written exam (3 hours) counts ca 50%. Letter grades (A-F).
