GEF4320 – Radiation and remote sensing

Course content

The radiative transfer equation in a plane-parallel atmosphere. Absorption and emission of longwave radiation. Absorption and scattering of shortwave radiation in cloudy and cloud free atmospheres. Transmission and reflection. Principles for satellite remote sensing. Active remote sensing with LIDAR.

Learning outcome

To provide the necessary background for work with radiative transfer problems in meteorology and oceanography, especially in connection with numerical models and remote sensing.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.
