GEF4230 – Numerical models of the atmosphere

Course content

Coordinate systems. Finite-difference methods. Truncation error and stability analysis. Objective analysis of weathermaps. Outline of numerical weather prediction. Parameterization of clouds, precipitation, boundary layer, radiation and surface exchange of energy, mass and momentum.

Learning outcome

You shall have basic knowledge about common methods for numerical solution of equations used in atmospheric science, and the parameterization of unresolved processes.

Admission

Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

If you are not already enrolled as a student at UiO, please see our information about admission requirements and procedures.

Prerequisites
