Message from TerjeKB concerning the modeling exercise:
In the detailed teaching plan you will find the manual describing how to setup and run the boxmodel for our computer exercise (manual.pdf). Also the text describing the exercise itself (oblig_tropchem.pdf, the same as the paper copy you got Thursday 26th).
The recommended way to do this is to use one of the Linux PCs in terminal room in 'Underetasjen' in the mathematics building (Nils Henrik Abel's house). When you have logged on you connect to the machine brokenbranch by typing:
> ssh brokenbranch
When you are logged on to brokenbranch you follow the description given in the manual.
If there are technical problems, try first to ask one of your fellow students if someone are available, or you can also ask me by e-mail or phone.
Some useful UNIX commands (explanation in parenthesis)
> ls -alt (list files in directory - sort by date)
> cp file1 file2 (copy file1 to file2)
> mv file1 file2 (move file1 to file2, delets file2)
> mv dir1 dir2 (move directory 1 with all its files to directory 2)
It is also possible to run it from windows based PCs but that requires that these PCs have installed C and Fortran compilers and the program Matlab. If you attempt this you should have some computer skills and know what you are doing. We will not be able to help with technical problems that might occur.
Good luck, and remember the deadline at November 13. 2 pm
