We have now graded the exams. For every student, the full results also include a breakdown of the points achieved per sub-problem (based on the detailed grading instructions).

In this way, the point distribution and final grade should be highly transparent -- but please let us know if you have any questions or doubts! This applies in particular if you consider to appeal against the grade, keeping in mind that this always implies significant resources for the institute (for hiring an external censor, who anyway will be provided with exactly the same grading instructions). Of course, if you after consultation still do not ...

As we had to cancel the last exercise session, I plan to offer an Q&A next week. Please answer this Doodle if you want to attend. I'll decide on a time and find a room by Monday.

Please post your questions in advance on astro-discourse if you want a well thought out answer.

There will be no group session today, as I'm travelling this week. I'm sorry for the late notice.

If there is any interest I will arrange a Q&A session the week before the exam. A doodle will be posted on discourse at the start of next week.

As announced at the end of today's lecture, I just put out some slides with more GW material -- starting with some details about the first-ever observed GW event (with LISA), and adding some nice webpages to explore results from numerical relativity + some outlook on LISA.

Enjoy, and let me know if any questions arise! :)

The lecture on Monday April 8 and the exercise class Thursday April 11 will be swapped. This means that Monday will be exercise class (in Kristian Birkeland) and Thurday will be lecture (in V203).

As you won't have too much time to look at the exercise sheet until Monday, this will mainly be more of a repetition class, where we can discuss anything covered in the course until now. To increase the quality of the answer you might get, please feel free to post questions on astro-discourse in advance.

As explained in the lecture, I just put out a `zeroth' version of the weekly exercises sets, to be discussed this Thursday.

We'll also go through any (other) questions you may have related to the necessary prerequisites for being able to follow this course.

In this course we will use AstroDiscourse for communicating outside of lecture / group exercise hours. So please take a look at a detailed guide here if you haven't used this tool before. Look for `fys4160-24v' once you have logged into the platform (with your standard student login).

In general, this kind of tool is really useful once one gets above a critical level of usage. So use it actively to ask and discuss any questions you may have!

The course starts on Monday, January 22, with an introductory lecture -- mostly explaining how the course is set up, its 'rules' and what will be covered.

In order to get out most of the course, please make sure to fresh up your background knowledge as soon as possible -- but latest during week 3 (which is the official start of the teaching period).

Welcome everyone to the fascinating world of general relativity!
