Project 1: more important messages

Hi all,

We hope the work with finishing project 1 is going well! We are receiving a few questions from people struggling to finish the project on time, so here are some messages to everyone regarding these things:

• The deadlines in this course are strict, and we will in general not grant individual deadline extensions or second attempts. (The exception is in the case of illness, etc.) This is to ensure fair treatment of everyone in a course with many students, and to make sure that we keep up with the tight schedule of the course.
• However, we will not be too strict when assessing project 1, given that it's the first encounter with C++ and many will have had significant technical challenges with getting everything running.
• So, you should deliver what you have on time, even if your results are incomplete / look wrong. But if you know that your results must be wrong, you are encouraged to include some comments in your project about what you think the reason might be -- even if you didn't have time to fix it.
• Also, note that many later problems (like 9a, 9b and 11) can be answered even if you didn't get the code working for problem 7. And even if your code is not working at all, for problems 8 and 10 you can still explain what results you would expect to get, had your code worked.
• So the general rule is:
  • Deliver what you have on time.
  • Make an effort to provide at least some answer on as many problems as possible, even if your code is not working properly.
  • If your code isn't working, add a comment on what you think the source of the problems might be.
• Finally, we advice you to keep an eye on the issues page on GitHub (both the open and closed issues), where there are a couple of technical questions and answers regarding project 1. (Note: we answer questions when we have time, so don't rely on us being able to answer many technical questions on the last day before the deadline...)
