FYS3150/4150 weekly update and final projects

Dear all, here comes the weekly fys3150/4150 update.

At the link http://compphysics.github.io/ComputationalPhysics/doc/web/course, or by doing a git pull, you will find 6 variants for project 5. We will discuss these this week (tomorrow Anders, Mathias and Anna will discuss some of the above projects) while the theory for the partial differential equation projects will be discussed for the rest of the semester. 

There may be further edits to the projects as soon as we find typos etc.  Stay tuned. In particular, the MD project may undergo some further edits. I am not too happy with its present layout.

The projects are

1) a quantum mechanical Monte Carlo calculation of project 2, see chapter 14 of lecture notes

2) a molecular dynamics study of argon atoms, here you can reuse the code from project 3, Thursday's lecture

3) Diffusion equation in one dimension and here you can also reuse your code from project 1, chapter 10 of lecture notes

4) A wave equation problem (of particular interest for people who geoscience), chapter 1o of lecture notes

5) A Monte Carlo simulation of financial transactions, chapters 11 and 12

6) An ODE and MC simulation of disease modeling, chapters 8 and chapters 11 and 12

This Friday there is by the way no lecture since Morten is away in the US for a meeting. 

The lab runs as usual both Thursday and Friday and most of you are most likely busy with project 4 now. 

Also, as we discussed last week, if there is an interest for this, please feel free to bring your own favorite cakes to the lab this week, either Thursday or on Friday.

p.s . For project 3 we may be delayed with feedback. Sebastian broke his heel this weekend and will remain hospitalized till the middle of December. Send him your best wishes.  Furthermore, Anders and Mathias have also been involved with different GRE tests when applying to schools abroad.
