For those of you doing the diffusion project or the solar system project, a shortened (no parallelization) and new version of both projects is now available under the project link. Best wishes.
The final projects are now available, see the various project 5 links. These projects will be discussed during the remaining lectures. On November 14 we will discuss the diffusion project in more detail (parts a-e). This discussion continues also on Monday 19. The statistical physics project is a continuation of project 4, but applied to the Potts model. We will discuss this project in more detail on Monday 19. Similarly for the third project.
Project 4 is now available, see under the project link. The deadline is November 12.
Due to various midterms etc, the deadline for project 3 is extended to October 29. Best wishes to you all.
Project 3 is now available. Observe also that there is no lecture Monday October 8 due to midterm exams. However, on Wednesday we have a regular lecture and the theory needed for project 3 is also discussed. The main issue on Wednesday is Monte Carlo integration, from brute force to importance sampling.
We have unfortunately had problems at the lab with the latest REDHAT upgrade. Many of you have not been able to access your home directories. There is a technical problem with file handling of user directories that causes the login problem on the central IT system.
What we would like to ask you in case you experience problems with login at the lab (room FV329) is to send an email to local IT at the Department of physics (it-hjelp@fys.uio.no). They will try to fix your problem.
We apologize this so much. It is beyond what we can do as teachers.
Project 2 is now available, see under the project link. The deadline is October 8 (till the end of the day). It will discussed today and during next week as well.
Morten is away for a meeting in Poland on August Wednesday 28. Magnar will lecture instead of Morten. Project 1 is also available from the webpage, see under the project link and project 1. The deadline is September 17 at midnight. How to hand in the report (electronic version only) via Fronter (blyant.uio.no) is described in the project.
The lab groups are now ready. Please check that you have been placed in the correct group and that your name is spelled correctly.
Welcome to a new semester! Our first lecture is Monday 20, 12.15pm till 2pm. Place: Lille Fysiske Aud. Best wishes for this semester.
