Exam grading

All exams were graded by at least two persons. All exams in which there was some doubt about the points given or that were close to a border between grades were discussed by all 4 sensors. This yielded for each student a number of points n_i for each problem i and a sum N=∑_i?n_i. The maximum number of points m_i for each problem i gives the maximum score M=∑_i?m_i. The following maximum points were as indicated in the exam text. Problem 1: a)2, b)1, c)2, d)1, e)3, f)4, g)3. Problem 2: a)3, b)2, c)1, d)3, e)1. Problem 3: a)4, b)1, c)1, d)1, e)5.

The percentage score for each student P=100?N/M was calculated, and the percentage scale to grade

https://i.ntnu.no/wiki/-/wiki/English/Grading+scale+using+percentage+points was used to set the grade.

We found these grades to be too low. We made the following adjustments to give the students more correct (and better) grades (the original grading n_i is not adjusted):

Problems 2b) and 2e) turned out to require more work for the students, and we doubled the number of points awarded. The point sum then becomes N_"new" =∑_i?n_i+n_2b+n_2e.

The maximum score M was lowered from 38 to 34 so that the final percentage is P=100?N_"new" /34.

The percentage to grade scale was adjusted as follows:

A: P≥89

B: P≥76

C: P≥64

D: P≥50

E: P≥32

F: P<32.
