Exam results for AST4320 autumn 2017 are ready. You will find your examination results in Studentweb.
Explanations and appeals:
Before you submit an appeal, it is recommended that you ask for an explanation of the grades.
More about examinations at UiO can be found here.
A tentative schedule for the presentations next week can be seen here. Please let me know if you wish to change the date/time. We will have 3 presentations in each class, and everyone has half an hour in total (talk + questions).
I know many of you are very busy with deadlines these days, but please make sure to come to the class even if you do not present that day. It is a great opportunity to learn new things that we cannot cover in the lectures, to ask questions, to participate discussions and to support your classmates. There will be bonus questions in the final exam related to the topics presented.
Good luck!
Assignment 2 can be downloaded here. It is due on Friday, October 20.
Good luck!
Just a reminder that the first homework is due this Friday. You can either put a hard-copy into my mailbox, or email me the electronic file. Please write your name and email address on the homework, thanks!
Due to illness of myself and my young child, I am afraid that I have to cancel this weeks lectures. I have put online the lecture notes and slides for lecture 9 and 10 so you can have a look. Sorry for the last-minute notice and the inconvenience...
The first group/assignment session this Thursday (14:15 - 16:00) will be lead by Lluis Mas-Ribas, because both myself (Sijing) and Robert will be traveling this Thursday. There will be no general tutorial during the session but Lluis will help you with any questions regarding the assignment or the lectures.
The first assignment can be downloaded here. Note that the deadline is now Friday, September 22. Exercise 2 requires a a bit of coding to solve the perturbation equation numerically. You can choose whatever language you like, but please attach the codes when you hand in the assignment.
Good luck!
The links to download course notes and slides are posted in the last column of the table under the "Schedules -> Lectures" which is labeled "Resources/curriculum".
Marc Pestana has kindly volunteered to be the student spokesperson for this course. His email address is marckp@astro.uio.no or flere.steiner@gmail.com. Please contact Marc, or the teaching assistant (Robert Wissing) or myself (Sijing Shen, shens@astro.uio.no) if you have any comments, suggestions and questions for this course!
Update: as we have all agreed during the first class, starting from next week the new time for the Tuesday lectures will be 9:15 - 11:00, instead of 14:15 - 16:00.
For some students the Tuesday lecture overlaps with a lecture in another course. I therefore suggest to move the Tuesday lecture to Monday 14:15 - 16:00. This is for the moment only a suggestion which we will discuss and decide in the first lecture (which will take place on Tuesday!).
It is therefore important that everybody taking the course shows up for the first lecture. If you have problems with the new time or cannot come this Tuesday, please send me (Sijing Shen, course responsible) a message asap to let me know your opinion. If we do decide to move the lecture, the new lecture time will be valid from the third week of lectures (Sept. 4th).
