I strongly recommend all students to attend the last lecture of the course on Tuesday 19 November. There will be a quiz session that will be useful to review of some of the main topics of the course.
Claudia
In preparation for her lectures on Nov 11,12 and 18, Prof. Jane Luu recommends to:
- Check the content of the Google drive folder "JaneLuu_lectures" where she uploaded the material for you;
- install SAOImage DS9 and make sure you can display the fits images she shared with you;
- install python and jupyter notebook, and make sure you can run the .ipynb file. The file shows how to read a FITS image, display it, etc. You only have to make sure the path name to the images is correct.
Dear students,
The second (graded) home assignment of the course will be explained on Nov 4-5, with a hard submission deadline of Nov 18 (via Devilry).
Software/code requirements: QFitsView (compulsory, I will give a practical tutorial during the lectures), Python (or IDL, Matlab, etc, whatever is your preferred code to produce plots and maps), 3DBarolo (optional, no practical tutorial because the use of this software is optional).
I remind you that it is compulsory to submit both home assignments in order to be admitted to the oral exam.

Dear students,
The frontal lectures (forelesning) of October 28 and October 29 are canceled.

Dear students,
The AST2210 lectures on Nov 11, 12 and 18, 2024 and the group session on Nov 12 will be delivered by Prof. Jane Luu (see her Wikipedia page and her life story on the Kavli prize website). She will go through the lecturing material reported in "Lecture 7" of the AST2210 lecture notes, but with new exercises and hands-on sessions prepared by her (her material will be available on the course Google Drive: feel free to start playing with it ahead of the lectures). Attendance to Jane Luu's lectures is *highly recommended* and it should be seen as a great learning opportunity by all of you. She asked me to tell you that there will be snacks ;).
Best, Claudia
Dear students,
The 1st home assignment has now been introduced and explained by Ignasi Poquet during the lectures this week. The assignment text, the data, and other relevant material has been uploaded on the Google Drive folder that was shared with you at the beginning of the semester. The hard deadline for submission is October 7th, 2024 at 17:00. Submission must be done via Devilry. Please remember not to identify yourself on the assignment text, since the grading will be done in an anonymous way.
Claudia
Dear AST2210 students,
Please remember that attending the first lecture of the course is compulsory. If you have a valid reason for not attending the first lecture on Monday August 19th, I need to be notified via email before the lecture.
See you soon!
Claudia
