Hinode lab, first debriefing

Hi everyone! The first lab-session is done with, and I think I have to apologize for how hectic it turned to be, and for me not being
able to spend enough time with everyone. The spread in computer/programming experience also turned out to be somewhat wide, so those that got towards the actual usage of IDL didn't get as much guidance as I had planned. I didn't get around to a final announcement about
the next steps for the lab, so I'll give that here.

Most have now gotten to Exercise 3 in the lab, and here you will have to use IDL in more than just a copy-paste fashion. Those that have not gotten access to IDL or have other problems such as not being able to plot via putty, please send me an email with error messages.

IDL is quite similar to Python, even though IDL has a command-prompt like f.ex. Matlab or an interactive Python session.

As an aside: it is expected of you to be familiar with basic programming - concepts such as lists/arrays, for and while loops, variable types,
scripts, functions and so on should be familiar to you, and something you should be able to pick up relatively quickly in the context of IDL using
these labs and asking for help, as well as resources readily available on the web. For some starting tips, I've created a document you can find here, which I can add to and update as problems and common questions arise. Again, if you get stuck - google should be your first thought.

Also, some of the servers at the Institute will be taken down for maintenance this weekend (Friday evening - Sunday Evening), so if you can't get things
working during this weekend, that's the reason why.

Finally, I'll bring out a separate notice about possible extra sessions for this lab in due course. Have a nice weekend!

Cheers, Ainar.

Update 1: The IDL tips'n'tricks pdf now contains information on how to save your images using a new function.
