Final exam results are now ready. Your grade is available in the StudentWeb.
By popular demand, there will be an exercise-class this Thursday the 27th at 10:15 in the Auditorium again. Some exam problems will be gone through.
Cheers, Ainar.
There will be another exercise class where mostly some exam problems will be gone through (Exam 2013). Usual time and place, 10:15 in the Auditorium. If there are any other requests, let me know beforehand.
Cheers,
Ainar
The last lab exercise will be held next week, and as before, please go to the doodle at http://doodle.com/n5nmc7yyw8debwib and sign up for the date and time that fits you.
I'll limit the groups to four members this time, since we ended up with a rather small group of only two last time, and we should probably manage with only two groups total if people can attend at the same dates.
The lab-text can be found here, as usual - read it beforehand. Also as usual, send me an email if there are any issues.
Ainar
There will be an exercise class this Thursday (13.11) at the usual time (10:15 - 12:00) in the Auditorium. If there are any special requests for exercises, let me know at ainard@astro.uio.no, as per usual. Otherwise, some exercises from either the lecture notes or old exams will be shown.
Cheers,
Ainar.
The poll for the next lab-exercise is out, please go to
http://doodle.com/y886gfshm4h7giyf
to register. Check the option for the day/time that suits you, as last time.
I've limited the nr. of participants for each day to three, so that we
get an even distribution of not too many people for each of them.
The lab-exercise text can be found here - read it before the lab.
Again, if there are any problems or questions, email me at ainard@astro.uio.no.
Ainar
By popular demand, there will be an IDL session where you can ask for help regarding the CCD-lab. It will be at the nominal group session time,
so on Thursday at 10:15-12:00 in the auditorium.
Ainar
P.S. : Additional information for the CCD-lab - for the wavelength of the *little* laser you used for the diffraction pattern you can assume a value of 690 nm.
Exam results for the mid-term exams are now ready. Your grade is available in the StudentWeb
For the lab-exercises you should bring a USB-stick to be able to download and take with you the data that you will produce (the lab-computer lacks an Internet connection)
Also, the lab-exercises will be carried out in the top floor in the light-laboratory (up the two small stairs after peisestua), the door is marked with laser-warnings.
Ainar
The preliminary schedule for the upcoming CCD-lab is as follows:
Group 1, Wednesday 22.10, 10:15 - 12:00
Group 2, Thursday 23.10, 14:15 - 16:00
Group 3, Friday 24.10, 14:15 - 16:00
As you can see, there will be different groups, with each consisting of up to four students, so please go to:
http://doodle.com/3kzghdyiszdzcdz2
to sign up for your preferred day and time. There is a limit of four students for each option selectable, so for the time being it's first-come-first-served. If there are any problems (like none of the days working out), mail Ainar at ainard@astro.uio.no as usual.
The lab-exercise (which you must go through beforehand!) can be found here.
In the next days we will jump to lectures 8 and 9, which will be taught by Sven Wedemeyer.
Notice for the students that did not join the trip to La Palma. During our stay at the Observatory we are lecturing chapters 4, 5 and 6. They will be part of the curriculum for the midterm exam, so please study them on your own.
Therefore, the curriculum for the exam will be comprised of chapters 1 to 6.
This coming Thursday 25 September Ainar will supervise the second exercise class before the midterm exam. See you at 10:15 on Thu.
There will be two exercise group sessions before the midterm exam, where selected exercises from the lecture notes and problems from previous exams will be gone through at the black board. The first of these sessions will be Thursday 18.09 at 10:15.
If there are any special requests for specific problems to be solved, send an email to ainard@astro.uio.no, and I'll see if I can include them.
Homework for next week:
presentations on these topics: 1) photomultiplyer or 2) superconducting tunnel junction detector or 3) photovoltaic cells.
You can do it in pairs or individually. Explain how do they work, find examples of current astronomical use if you can, wavelengths of use, ... Include as much info as possible.
Ainar Drews has now taken over as Teaching Assistant, and he will be supervising the labs from now on. Lab-reports can be delivered to him by mail at ainard@astro.uio.no in pdf format. Any questions about the labs can be directed to this address as well.
The deadline for the first report is still by the end of this week (read: before Monday morning).
Dear all,
As you know, we don't use the Thursday group hours, neither in previous years. However, we have received feedback from students that would like to use those days to do exercises.
So this year, as an experiment, the teaching assistant will resolve exercises on the blackboard during the Thursday group teaching. This will happen during the 3 weeks previous to the midterm exam.
It will be announced in due time when the first Thursday class will happen.
Kj?re studenter.
