1) Describe the different levels of armed conflict according to international humanitarian law. According to these rules, how would you categorise the situation in Afghanistan? (It is assumed that the Afghan Government, following the US invasion that led to the fall of Taliban in 2001, presently is receiving international armed support in its fight against national rebel groups.)
2) A Taliban-soldier, a Pakistani Al-Qaida fighter and an Afghan taxi driver were all captured in Afghanistan in 2001 and sent to Guantanamo, accused of being involved in terrorist activities. According to which provisions of international humanitarian law should these persons be treated?
3) Explain the term “indiscriminate attack”. All three questions must be answered.
