PCS – Professional Communication Seminar
Course content
Learn how to create and deliver an effective presentation, express yourself better, become a more interesting speaker, and hold your audience’s attention through content organization, body language, voice intonation, eye contact, and audiovisuals. You will be able to immediately apply what you learn to your other courses at ISS. This interactive seminar builds your personal and professional skills. Requirements: attendance, participation, and a 2-minute speech at class 4. This seminar is limited to 80 participants.
Learning outcome
This seminar is an interactive, experiential, personal and professional development seminar designed to provide students with skills in the areas of leadership, personality, and work style awareness. It will also develop teamwork, communication, presentation, negotiating and career planning skills, so that participants can become more efficient in their work, education, and personal lives.
Admission
ISS students can take this seminar in addition to their regular course load. You must be enrolled in another course at the International Summer School to take this seminar. Graduate students are preferred.
Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
No obligatory prerequisites beyond the minimum requirements for entrance to higher education in Norway. Minimum academic requirements.
Teaching
The seminar will comprise a series of four two-hour sessions over four weeks. Classroom sessions include lectures, discussions, exercises and interactive sessions based on a high level of student participation.
Examination
Students are evaluated on a presentation given in the seminar, class participation and attendance.
Grading scale
No official grade will be given, but students with satisfactory attendance will be issued a Certificate of Participation.
