Preparatory assignment
Dear student,
Welcome to the International Summer School 2023
We are delighted to have you in the International Development Studies class of 2023. The International Development Studies course is work-intensive, and your work starts before coming to Norway. Your fellow students come from all over the world, and an essential part of the course is sharing your different experiences. In the first week of the course, you will present the poverty problems of your country at a mandatory 3-day trip to the Student Cottage in the forest north of Oslo. You will have only 15 minutes for your presentation. Please prepare for this before you come to Oslo.
The course includes a group assignment and a final written exam. The group assignment counts for 30% of the total grade. The final written exam lasts 4 hours and counts for 70% of the total grade. You will work with the group exam paper (8,000 - 10,000 words) throughout the course. You will choose from a list of pre-selected themes. In week five, all groups will do a presentation and receive feedback from fellow students and teachers. A detailed course schedule and the themes for the group work will be handed out on the first day of class.
At the end of the first week, we will go to cabin for three days (1st to 3rd July). It is mandatory, and everyone should take part. It is advised to bring warm clothes, rain gear, and indoor and outdoor shoes for the cabin trip. More details will be provided during the first week.
We wish you good luck with your preparation and look forward to meeting you this summer.
Your sincerely,
Anders Iversen MeeNilankco Theiventhran Course leader Course leader
