sSuch a lot of exciting projects! You will all find your comments in the latest folder ("innlevering") in Fronter, even if you submitted in another forlder or on e-mail.
Several of you are doing research involving real, private persons (e.g., blogs, Twitter tweets or surveys). You then need approval from the University of Oslo's Data Protection Official. See guidelines in English or Norwegian. (If you speak Norwegian, you have to apply for approval in Norwegian).
As you all know, the last seminar had to be moved as it collided with an exam in another subject. The new date is Friday, 25 April in room 205.
a research plan for your term paper is due to be delivered in Fronter before Thursday 13 March at noon.
It should contain:
- research method
- sample: how big, how to find it (if appliccable)
- time plan: what will you do when
Feedback will be given in Fronter the following week.
In your portfolio, in addition to your term paper, you should include copies of or links to:
a selection of 1000-2000 words of blog posts or similar, or
30-40 tweets or similar microblogging posts, or
30-40 photographs, or
5-10 podcasts or videos
Your research question and literature list for the term paper is due Thursday 27 February -- or, let's say Saturday 1 March. Upload it in Fronter.
The papers relevant for lectures this week and next week can be downloaded from Fronter. Go to the 4610 room and choose "Teaching texts".
Room 208, Oslo Research Park. That's one floor down from the entrance.
Staksrud's lecture on children and Social Media will be on 6 March. It was announced this week on the web and in the syllabus. That was just a stupid mistake an unnamed employee did when I prepared the syllabus.
As our home room is being refurbished, we have to move up to one of the Humanities buildings on campus. P.A.Munch's hus (PAM) is the low building to the right of the main entrance. Seminar room 4 (room 110), on the ground floor.
If you follow UniOslo_MEVIT4610 on Facebook or Instagram, you'll get messages and extra study tips. Twitter will follow as soon as their registration page is working again. And Pinterest. Maybe some other sites. What's your favorite social medium? Where do you want to find the Social Media course? Tell me on Facebook, Instagram, or e-mail (yawn).
We will begin next week! I am so much looking forward to meeting you all. Before the first seminar, I expect you to read Marika Lüders' article on personal media, and chapters 1-4 in Jill Walker Rettberg's smart and easy-to-read book Blogging.
Best, Anders
The teachings in MEVIT4610 will be held at the Department of Media and Communications, floor -1 (one below ground floor). The room number is 230. For those of you who know IMK it's the old 'bachelorlesesal'. (We'll put up a note before the first lecture).
Social Media is a course that will focus on current research. So current, that you will be the researcher. As a researcher you will scan the body of earlier research, and construct your own reading plan. You will carry out a small study, and write it up as a research paper.
Being a research apprentice, you learn by doing, supervised by a more experienced researcher -- me --, and supported by your fellow students.
Auditorium-style lectures do not work for this learning by doing approach. Instead we will meet for longer seminars and discuss both earlier research and the studies we are carrying out.
Seminar dates will be 6, 13, and 27 February, 6 March, and 3 April. Individual supervision will be scheduled later.
Looking so much forward to meeting you!
Best, Anders
