Pardon the delay, but here is the dummy exam question we discussed briefly last seminar.
“During the era of increased private media activity, the Canadian government reframed its approach to broadcasting policy through the Department of Communications, in an attempt to identify ’technology’ rather than ‘free markets’ as the driving force behind regulatory changes” (Chakravartty and Sarikakis, 2006:93)
Outline the concepts of these approaches to regulation of the media in a global context and discuss and compare the merits and challenges of them as ways of constructing a global media regulatory regime drawing on the theories and discussions in the syllabus.
