FOX SEMINAR- FRIDAY 23 NOV

This Friday, is the last seminar we will have on FOX. Since two of the previous topics were not discussed last Friday, we will discuss them in addition to discussions on FOX and the independent media as follows. All of you are required to read pages 41-74 of the compendium. Group will discuss China, Group 2 will discuss Burma and group three will discuss the above text with examples from Europe/Africa.

Group 3: Please read and discuss the text: Freedom of Speech in the Media (in the compedium p41-74). You may provide examples in Europe and or Africa) Jade Hedda Julia

FOX Seminar 16 November

Dear all Freedom Of Expression students, This Friday, 16 November, our discussions will be on the New Media and Freedom of Expression (Discussing the opportunities, challenges and threats to FOX). We will have three case studies, which will be discussed as follows:

EXCURSION TO DEMOCRATIC VOICE OF BURMA

This will take place on Friday 2 November. You will meet the seminar leader Carol at Blindern train station at 10h30. Those who cant make it to Blindern, the address for DVB is Wesselsgate 4. Please note that the talk starts at 11h00. Prepare questions in advance on Burma and issues of freedom of expression.

The cancelled seminar for last week (19 October) will now take place this Friday 26 October. This means that the timetable for seminars has changed (please download the changed timetable). This seminar is compulsory.

The excursion to Democratic Voice of Burma remains on Friday 2 November.

Welcome to the course on Freedom of Expression - Discourses, Principles and Practices this term! Important changes/messages will be relayed to you through the billboard on the course web site.

The lectures

Sarah Chiumbu has the main responsibility for the lectures. There are only 6 lectures for the course (please refer to the timetable on the left). The course will have 2 guest lecturers:

Traditionally, this course has involved attending an open lecture at the Institusjonen Fritt Ord (The Freedom of Expression Foundation, Oslo), but unfortunately due to renovations at the Fritt Ord offices, there are no open lectures this semester.
