Tema v?ren 2023
In this course we will discuss central texts as well as case studies on collective memory and collective identity. Starting from important texts and theories dealing with the cultural construction of collective memory and its role shaping collective identities and narratives, we will analyse how the past is remembered in different media forms and how collective memory changes against the backdrop of historical and political processes. Initially, an overview of central academic texts will be given. We will then examine these texts for their applicability using selected case studies from Central and Eastern European countries (e.g. Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Ukraine, Belarus or Russia) to be applied to the students' individual work.
