Kursbeskrivelse
Biografien er blant de eldste litter?re former vi har. I store deler av den lange historien har livsskildringer blitt lest som ukompliserte, referensielle verk. P? seminaret vil biografien imidlertid bli studert som en utpreget retorisk genre. Hvordan kan biografen overbevise leseren om sin persontolkning? Hvilke virkemidler tas i bruk for ? fortelle den ?nskede historien?
N?r diktere fremstilles som eksepsjonelle mennesker, som forfulgte og lidende outsidere, og som om livet deres samsvarer med deres verk, er dette trekk ved dikterrollen som kan f?res tilbake til antikken og genrens opprinnelse i epideiktisk ? lovprisende ? retorikk. Sentralt st?r ogs? fornyelsen av biografien p? 1700-tallet med Samuel Johnson og fremveksten av "den nye biografi" i det tyvende ?rhundret.
