NORINT0190 – Phonetics for International Students
Schedule, syllabus and examination date
Course content
This is a practical course in pronunciation. The students are trained to improve their pronunciation both on the segmental level (vowels and consonants) and on the prosodic level (quantity, stress, accent and tone), as well as some other phonetic areas. The students are also trained to distinguish between phonetic differences that are relevant to Norwegian phonology, thereby improving their comprehension of spoken Norwegian. To some degree, Norwegian is compared to other languages that the students speak.
Learning outcome
The students improve their pronunciation and comprehension of Norwegian both on the segmental level (vowels and consonants) and on the prosodic level (quantity, stress, accent and tone).
The students acquire basic knowledge of Norwegian phonology. They learn to apply this knowledge to improve their own pronunciation. They also learn to consider differences between Norwegian and other languages they speak when practicing their pronunciation.
The students learn basic phonetic and phonological terminology that is used in the course to describe Norwegian.
The final mark shows the extent to which the student has attained the intended learning outcome.
