Course content
The course provides an overview of the Semitic language family, with a focus on the position of Hebrew within this family. Thus providing an overview of current research on issues in mainly modern Semitic linguistics. The topics cover all the realms from phonology, over morphology to syntax and semantics and can be selected/adjusted according to the students’ interest and prior knowledge. The course also encompasses an in-depth introduction to modern linguistic key concepts and methodology.
Learning outcome
Students will learn to reflect on a variety of issues in modern Semitic linguistics, based on original texts and secondary literature. Students will also gain practice in academic writing and oral presentation of subject matter.
