  2. Late Biblical Hebrew and Qumran: text samples
  3. Sefer Ben Sira: excerpts
  4. Mishna: excerpts from the sections on marital law
  5. Medieval Hebrew 1: piyyut samples
  6. Medieval Hebrew 2: history of science (lexicography) samples
  7. Haskala period and early 19th century: excerpts from a story by Mendele Mokher Seforim
  8. "Revival" of the Hebrew language: excerpts from the treatise she’ela nikhbada and Ben Yehuda’s Thesaurus
  9. Pre-state literature: excerpts from poems by the "national poet" Bialik
  10. Amos Oz: excerpts from literature dealing with the Middle East conflict
  11. David Grossman: excerpts from literature dealing with the Middle East conflict
  12. Modern diplomatic documents: excerpts from Hebrew versions of bi- and multilateral treaties

The semester assignment essay will be part translation, textual analysis and contextualization. Text will be chosen in agreement with the teacher.
