Course description
Course content
We will study a selection of Latin epic poetry, with a primary focus on the classical period, particularly the works of authors such as Vergil and Ovid (approximately 1200-1500 lines, depending on the level of difficulty). Additionally, we will examine and discuss secondary literature relevant to the texts under examination. This course serves as an introduction to the significant literary and stylistic features of epic poetry, while also delving into its historical and social contexts of the genre. It also acquaints students with the language and meter used in the poems under study.
