In Japan, we categorize catherineholm as a retro and antique products rather than Nordic design products. I have a question why this differences occur
First, the price. This is the biggest change through exportation. We think Nordic design products as a good quality in cheap. For example, the main Nordic shop in Japan is IKEA, Tiger, sostrenegrene. These shops are still increasing the number. So we have a bias of good quality in cheap to Nordic products, but it is a myth.
Second, the number of products is regulated. Not like a rare products as cathrineholm, Nordic products these days does not have high scarcity value. One designed product has many number of the same products. This fit to the mass consumption society.
Third, the easiness of use has been changing. When cathrinehom was invented, enermel was one of the best material for dishes. However, today enermenl is too old instead the plastic products. We often see Nordic design painted in plastic or products easy to use for everyone.
Therefore, old style catherineholm is categorized to antique products not Nordic. However, with its pattern new products is invented, Lucie Kaase in Denmark
