Course content

This course is based on the introductory course FIL1005 - Innf?ring i filosofihistorie fram til 1800. The focus will be on theoretical philosophy (such as metaphysics, philosophy of nature, epistemology and logic) in works, periods and/or ideas in the?history of philosophy from around 600 BC until the Renaissance.?Important names here are for example Heraklit, Parmenides, Sokrates, Plato, Aristotele, Hellenistic philosophers, philosophers form the late Antiquity, Augustin, Boethius, Thomas Aquinas, Ockham, Montaigne and Galieo. The focus of the course and authors who will be studied in it will vary from one semester to another.

Learning outcome

After having completed the course, you are expected to:

  • have deeper knowledge of the text(s) and author(s) that were included in the reading list
  • have a certain knowledge of the current debates in this subject
  • be able to explain in a clear manner what are the main characteristics of the subject
  • be able to discuss the subject in a reasonably independent and critical manner
