IBS4395 – Master's Thesis in Ibsen Studies
Course content
An independent research project where the students develop and discuss research questions related to Ibsen and his works.
Learning outcome
To give a theoretical and methodological basis for advanced studies of Ibsen and his works.
Admission
Students who are admitted to study programmes at UiO must each semester register which courses and exams they wish to sign up for in Studentweb.

Prerequisites
Formal prerequisite knowledge
Bachelor’s Degree and 60 points in Ibsen Studies.
Passed ILN4900 – Project Semester for Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies or ILN4950 – Research project semester for Linguistics and Scandinavian Studies
Teaching
A thesis with a topic formulated by the student is to be written under up to 7,5 hours of supervision throughout the process.
In order to be assigned a supervisor, students must agree to and sign a supervision agreement for masters students enrolled in the Department.
Examination
The master's thesis should be submitted during the last semester after all other courses have been completed.

The master's thesis may be written in English or Norwegian or another Scandinavian language. The thesis is assessed and graded by a subject teacher and an external sensor.

Language of examination
You may write your examination paper in Norwegian, Swedish, Danish or English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Resit an examination
Withdrawal from an examination
A master’s thesis that is not passed may be resubmitted only once, and then within the agreed time and in revised form. A master’s thesis that is passed may not be resubmitted in revised form.
If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline, this will be counted as an examination attempt.
