Course content
An examination of the contemporary reception of Ibsen’s drama in a few selected cultures from 1980 to the present, with emphasis on the last decade.
A central feature is to examine the mechanisms that are fundamental to the establishment of aesthetic hierarchies, more specifically the global forces influencing the adoption of these texts within the time frame.
A standard syllabus has been produced, and this will be found on the course page for each semester.
Learning outcome
To contribute to an understanding of the transmission of cultural expressions between cultures, through the analysis of how transmission of Ibsen’s plays involves appropriation
(in the neutral sense) and re-valuation and how the plays are given new and perhaps different value and meaning.

Teaching
The course is given jointly With IBS4105 – Ibsen Between Cultures and the course has duration of one semester, combining intensive seminar teaching and regular weekly courses with exercises in groups to a total of 28 hours.
One obligatory assignment is to be written at home during the course chosen from an inventory of seminar relevant topics or formulated by the individual student. (The title of the assignment is subject to the approval of the course teacher)
Examination
Each student must write and submit an analytical essay of 10 pages in length (approx. 2300 characters without spaces per page) that is relevant to the course content.
Examination support material
No examination support material is allowed.
Language of examination
The examination text is given in English, and you submit your response in English.
Grading scale
Grades are awarded on a scale from A to F, where A is the best grade and F is a fail. Read more about the grading system.

Withdrawal from an examination
It is possible to take the exam up to 3 times. If you withdraw from the exam after the deadline or during the exam, this will be counted as an examination attempt.

Evaluation
Each student writes an assignment 10 pages in length (approx. 20,000 characters). The assignment is assessed and graded by the subject teacher.
