Assignment for the next class meeting (April 20): Temple discussion

The meeting on April 6 is cancelled. It will be replaced by a meeting on April 14, 12.15-14.00 in Room 410 Niels Henrik Abels hus.
For the obligatory essay: Your essay should have an argument. It should not be just a list of approaches with a summing up at the end. Also, you should follow standard forms of citation, putting quotation marks around direct quotes (and giving the source and page number) and also citing arguments which you have taken from a source (with the source and page number). You may use the social science form of citation or the style followed in the humanities. Contact the instructor by email, if you have further questions.
The obligatory essay is due on the 30th of March.

Advice concerning the obligatory essay for HIS2172: Students should reflect on the types of knowledge which the different articles bring to the topic and decide which type(s) of knowledge they think is the most useful to have in regard to understanding the historical significance of temples during medieval south India.
Read the pensum to get a wider view of the medieval period. In this way you will be a better position to comment on the articles relating to the temples.
Regarding Heiztman, he provides a context for assessing the political significance of temples during the Chola period.

Note that for the class meeting on the 23rd of February Avari 86-104 is also assigned (see new class schedule on website). For the class meeting on the 2nd of March Kulke and Rothermund 103-151 is also assigned.
