Introduction
The "lagringshotell" is UiO's network-attached storage. It is where we store research data and is secure for green, yellow, and red data. More details on storage classifcation can be found here. Access differs depending on how you are connected to the network. This is a secure drive so permissions must be given for new users. Contact Kayla for help with access.
Cabled UiO Network
Computers accessing the UiO cabled network should be able to access the storage directly. However due to corona this has not been tested. More details to come
Wifi or Offsite
If you are sitting on a machine that is not connected to a wired network at UiO, such as wireless network or mobile network, then you must use Cyberduck (Mac), WinSCP (Windows), or Filezilla (Linux or Ubuntu) for access to the drive. Note: all programs work on windows but it is recommended to use WinSCP. The programs are not part of the software center or base image so they will need to be downloaded before use. Links to download Cyberduck or WinSCP or Filezilla.
Cyberduck
After installing and opening Cyberduck, go to Bookmarks in the main menu and select "New bookmark".
Setup as follows:
- In the top dropdown menu choose SFTP
- Enter the field "Nickname" with whatever you want the shortcut to be called
- In the server field, type "login.uio.no"
- Set the port field "22"
- Enter your UiO username and password
- Set the Path field to: /net/lagringshotell/uio/lagringshotell/hf-mocap
To connect to drive, your Nicknamed shortcut appears bookmarks folder. More details on cyberduck use can be found here.
WinSCP
After installing, to connect start WinSCP and click "New Site". Edit the settings as follows:
- File Protocol: SFTP
- Host name: login.uio.no
- Port number: 22
- Enter your UiO username and password
- Under Advanced
- Directories
- Set the Remote Directory to: /net/lagringshotell/uio/lagringshotell/hf-mocap
- Click OK
- Directories
- Under Save
- Enter Site Name to name the shortcut
With your newly saved session selected, click "Login". Accept the host key (you'll be asked for this only once), and type in your password when prompted.
WinSCP will create a window with your local system on one side, and the remote system (hf-mocap) on the other. You can drag and drop files from one side to the other, or open them directly – though WinSCP must likely be told what program to use to open certain document types.
Filezilla
After download and install, open Filezilla Client. Under File, select Site Manager and create a New site. Rename the site to customize and edit the following settings.
- Protocol: SFTP
- Host: login.uio.no
- Port: 22
- Enter your UiO username and password
- Under the Advanced tab
- Directories
- Set the Remote Directory to: /net/lagringshotell/uio/lagringshotell/hf-mocap
- Click OK
- Directories
Click Connect. It asks if you would like to remember passwords, it is recommended to choose "Do not save passwords". Accept the host key (you'll be asked for this only once).
