Abstract: 'Nature' has been at the forefront of publishing science for the last 150 years. Its original magazine or ‘flagship’ (published with the sole name Nature) is probably one of the most prestigious and influential scientific journal in the world. It publishes original and, typically, groundbreaking research in all fields of science and technology on the basis of its originality, importance, interdisciplinary interest, timeliness, accessibility, elegance and surprising conclusions (https://www.nature.com/nature/about ). While the Nature flagship has been historically viewed as publishing predominantly content in biological and physical sciences, the journal has a strong interest in representing social sciences more comprehensively. Dr. Francesca Cesari is currently the Chief Biological Sciences Editor at Nature. She is hosted for one day by the RITMO Centre for Interdisciplinary Studies in Rhythm Time and Motion and the Department of Psychology, both at the University of Oslo, and she will present a unique view from the inside of the editorial management of the journal. Francesca will first introduce the magazine and its role in contemporary science and then she will answer questions from the audience about its role in special disciplines.
Bio: Francesca Cesari is Chief Biological Sciences Editor at Nature, overseeing editorial content and management of the biological science section of Nature. She has a Master with honours in Molecular Biology from University of Rome “La Sapienza”, Italy, and obtained her Ph.D. from the Institute of Cell Biology in Tübingen, Germany, where she also continued with a post-doctoral work. She completed another post-doctoral work at The Wellcome Trust/Cancer Research Gurdon Institute in Cambridge, UK. Prior to joining Nature permanently she was a Senior Editor of Nature Reviews Molecular Biology and briefly worked at Nature Cell Biology as a Senior Editor. She was the Stem Cell and Development Editor at Nature for some years before her appointment to Chief Biological Sciences Editor in 2014
