Local travel information after arriving in Oslo
- Ruter : Once you arrive at Oslo S, the BEST way to plan your local travel and get around the city is using the Ruter app. The Ruter system includes all buses, trams, ferries, or the subway (metro). All of these are accessible with a ticket that can be purchased via the Ruter app. You can also buy a physical ticket at kiosks and booths around the city. Please visit the Ruter website for more information. N.B. Purchasing tickets on-board is NOT possible on trams and the subway (metro). It is also NOT recommended to purchase tickets on-board buses and ferries as you must pay in cash (bills must be smaller than NOK 200) and you may have to pay additional onboard surcharges.

Hugh's favorite…
Pub: Gr?nland Boulebar - Pub with a good selection of food and drink, lots of activities (from pool, to racing simulators, to an indoor boule field), and free live music (Tuesday Jazz and Blues, Saturday Operapub )
Hiking: N?klevann – Beautiful lake to the east of Oslo, feels quite remote hiking up from here with some impressive cliffs, but easily accessible with the number 3 metro
Taco Place: Corral's Tacos – The most authentic birria tacos that you can get in Oslo. A little expensive, however.
Kjell Andreas' favorite...
Oslo reptilpark: Snakes, lizards, spiders, frogs et cetera. A specialized mini-zoo in the middle of town.
ZZ pizza t?yen: For takeaway-pizza to your hotel.
Mastermind bar: Spaceous, possible to borrow board games, and most importantly – very cheap beer for its location in the city centre (which is still expensive in a global sense, but you know what I mean).
Vippa: Food court on the docks. Really nice spot to hang out in summer. If you bring your fishing rod you can catch mackerel and garfish too.
Radegast wine bar: Really nice wine bar with a good cellar and cool wines by the glass (coravin). Drop-in tastings every Wednesday and Friday. Nedre Foss g?rd (the larger umbrella venue) also has a cocktail bar, a beer hall and a fine dining restaurant.
Alnaelva (hiking): For a different hiking experience. You can walk along the Alna river all the way from Grorud to Kv?rner (close to the city centre) or the other way around.
HIMKOK: It’s posh, it’s hip, it’s the internationally acclaimed cocktail mecca of Oslo. Worth a visit, but rough on the wallet if you stay there the whole night.
Sandra's favorite...
City Hike: Follow the Akerselva River, starting from BL? (or even further down in the city center), and walk up to H?nse-Lovisa's house, where you can enjoy coffee and waffles with a view of the waterfall. If the weather's good, continue to Nydalen for a refreshing dip in the river.
Nature Hike: For nice views over Oslo, hike up Vettakollen. Afterwards, cool off with a swim in B?ntjern Lake.
Outdoor Food & Drinks: Vippa and Salt. Both offer street food and drinks in spacious settings by the water. You can even take a dip in the fjord! And try out the saunas at Salt or Oslo badstuforening.
Charming Neighborhood: Explore Kampen, a charming area with old wooden houses and cozy cafes like Farine, Kampen Bistro, and Kampen Kaffe & Bar.
Trendy Vibes: Grünerl?kka and Rodel?kka. Many nice cafes (e.g., very good coffee at Tim Wendelboe), bars (e.g., [www.perlabar.no]Perla), restaurants (e.g., Fat City), vintage shops (e.g., Det gule hus), and parks (e.g. Sofienbergparken). If you are staying in Oslo after SysMus, check out the Piknik i Parken music festival, June 12th-14th.
Concert Venue: Cosmopolite
Wine Bar: Nektar
