Norwegian musician and composer Anne Hytta is a performer of the traditional music of Telemark on Hardanger fiddle and of her own new composed and improvised music. The Hardanger fiddle has sympathetic strings and its own rich repertoire of traditional tunes. Her background is deeply founded in this repertoire's highly distinctive playing style, which she learned from Einar L?ndal (1914-2006) and Knut Buen (1948–). The repertoire comprises the springar tradition, a type of dance tune in asymmetric triple meter, where the first beat is long and the third short, but where the second beat nevertheless is the gravitational centre of the bar.
Hytta also writes and arranges new music at the intersection of Traditional folk music, Contemporary classical music and other modal traditional folk music traditions. In 2006, 2007 and 2009, she received the Norwegian Government Grants for younger artists. She received the Norwegian Folk Music Award for a best solo album in 2006, 2011 and 2017, and the Norwegian Grammy (Spellemannprisen) in the open category in 2015 for the album “Short stories” with her trio Slagr, and a second Norwegian Grammy in the category of traditional music in 2017 for the solo album “Strimur”.
