The original idea was to develop an online course that would teach incoming RITMO students, staff, and guests about motion capture basics. The course has grown to a full-featured online course with worldwide coverage.

The course has been developed by an interdisciplinary team from RITMO in close collaboration with the pedagogical team and production staff at LINK, UiO's Centre for Learning, Innovation and Academic Development.

In the past, we had so few users in the lab that they could be trained individually. With all the new exciting projects at RITMO and an increasing amount of external users, we realized that it was necessary to have a more structured approach to lab training. Here Lab Engineer Kayla Burnim explains some typical beginner's problems.

It quickly became clear that we had to cover both hardware-related topics and analysis. Here postdoctoral researcher Victor Gonzales Sanchez explains a typical data workflow.

LINK helped structure the development into different stages: ideation, development of learning outcomes, production planning, and production. Here Pedagogical Adviser Mikkel Kornberg Skjeflo explains the importance of structuring the course development around concrete learning outcomes.

The content and structure of the course were developed through several workshops. This helped secure that the various parts were well connected and that everyone involved understood which articles to write, quizzes to make, and videos to film.

After much preparation and planning, it was finally time to start filming for the course. Lab Engineer Kayla Burnim checks that all the equipment is packed and ready for transport for the first shoot.

A part of the course is based on material filmed in connection to MusicTestLab featuring the Oslo-based Borealis String Quartet. This was a concert set up to test equipment in a real-world venue at the University Library.
