Practical Information

Language, Admission requirements, Application deadline and Scope

  • Teaching language is English. Projects can be conducted both in Norwegian and English.
  • Admission requirements: Completed Introductory module and approved project description (via online form below)

  • Academic staff at the University of Oslo in all types of positions (both permanent and fixed-term contracts)

  • 50 hours

Why this module?

In this module, you have the opportunity to delve into a university pedagogical practice, themes, or questions about which you are particularly curious. Throughout the semester each participant, in collaboration with other course participants and the course leaders from LINK and our colleagues from UB, designs and works on the pedagogical practice, theme, or question they have identified. 

One note on language: This website, the canvas page and all information will be in English, as will be plenary lectures from the module leaders. You can choose between English and Norwegian for group work and assignments.

The goal of the work is to

  • Further develop university pedagogical competence, a teaching repertoire and reflection through sharing experiences and joint exploration of relevant literature. 

  • Further develop competence in and reflection on pedagogical development work and how relevant research can be translated into your context and practice. 

  • Strengthen competence in collegial collaboration on teaching development. 

  • Continue your formation and development as a university teacher. 

Examples of development work can be to collaborate with others to: 

  • Co-design or co-redesign new learning activities and or forms of assessment. 

  • Co-integrate practices to improve students' ability for academic writing in a course or program design 

  • Strengthen the link between research and education and/or to involve students in research 

  • Include/strengthen education for sustainability 

  • Co-develop a universally designed and inclusive learning environment 

  • Co-create spaces for students and academics to meet informally and engage about education, research, careers 

  • Involve students as partners in planning, teaching, teaching development and student evaluation or as learning assistants in the subject / program 

  • Co-develop interdisciplinary collaborations in education 

Organisation

  • Throughout the module semester, you work on your own development project. In this module development work is collaborative and addresses teaching and learning in your department, faculty, or the university. ?You must collaborate with colleagues (e.g. administrators, leaders, students, PostDocs, or other academics). The project can be linked to a challenge identified by your department / program?or part of a long-term project on teaching and learning you are conducting with colleagues.? Development work also includes plans to evaluate your work and what you have learnt from it. 

  • The groups meet four times per semester, facilitated by LINK course leaders, subject librarians and others providing expertise and advice to your work on your project.  Between the meetings, you are expected to work on their development projects, drawing on selected literature, and preparing presentations and discussions for the meetings, as well as responding to questions or requests from the others in the group. In the last meeting, you present your development projects. 

  • This is not a classic course, content and setup are thus developed during the semester in response to the work you do.  

Module requirements

The module requires the following:? 

  • Completion of module assignments and one oral presentation of your project in small groups. 

  • 80% attendance, as well as active work and cooperation in and between the meetings.
